Pittsburgh, PA — Pittsburgh-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Christ Shrift embarks on a new solo project rooted in indie punk and slacker Americana. Former front-man and songwriter of Denver based psych-rock outfit, CRITTR, Shrift returns to form both thematically and geographically in his newest solo work.
Having grown up in Western Pennsylvania, Shrift’s upcoming LP Different Driveways explores the quiet disconnect of returning to a place you once called home, but now feels unfamiliar. “Being closer to home for the first time in a long time, coming out of a creative frustration, this new batch of songs feels grounding and rejuvenating. It’s like returning to a well you thought was dry and striking oil.”
Fuzzy guitars and whimsical storytelling lay the foundation for Shrift’s newest work. Standout tracks “Networking” and “July” are riddled with wry, border-line snarky lyrical quips and pulsing with post-punk grit. Meanwhile, mellower tunes like “Inherit” and “Subtle” straddle front-porch Americana and slack-jawed indie haze, taking listeners on a stumbly journey through the sometimes isolating frontier of Western PA.
Chris Shrift has been featured on Pittsburgh-based record label Crafted Sounds’ “Have a Nice Day” Collection“, and recently took the stage at the annual Speak Your Truth Showcase.
